The Regional Insights Forum (RIF) expresses deep concern over the recent military attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Such actions represent a dangerous escalation in an already fragile regional environment and undermine the foundational principles of international law, particularly the prohibition on the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states as enshrined in the United Nations Charter. International legal experts note that military action against another state is only lawful when authorized by the United Nations Security Council or exercised in legitimate self-defence against an armed attack.
RIF firmly believes that political disputes and strategic disagreements must be resolved through diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful negotiation rather than through coercive military means. The continued normalization of unilateral military actions threatens global stability and erodes the norms that sustain the international order. RIF therefore calls upon all parties to exercise restraint, respect international legal frameworks, and return to diplomatic engagement in order to prevent further escalation and protect regional and global peace.
